「学習」の"変化をはらんだ流れ"
ドリフトとはどのような変化のモードを表しているだろう？
たとえば、進化のプロセスを思いかえしてみる。進化には親や子といった単位があり、それらが再生産をくり返して歴史的な線（lineage）を成す。そうしてしだいに変化してゆく動態がある。しかし、生物の進化は環境に適応するという目的をもって進行するのではない。たえず変動する環境のなかで自然選択をへて、再生産を継続できる有機体だけがその系統発生をつづけることができる。それは、まるで予測不能な風と波の変化によって動かされ漂流するボートのようなものだ。
これをドリフト（漂流）とよんでいる。こうした生物の進化を"ナチュラル・ドリフト"とマトゥラーナとバレーラはよんだ。
私はこのドリフトを個体における「学習」にも見いだしたいと思う。
「学習」とは個体の"行動の変化"である。一つの種のメンバーのある行動が、環境との相互作用の歴史において発達するばあい（つまり生得的でない）、その構造は個体発生的で、「学習」されたものだとみることができる。
その「学習」の変化の動態をドリフトと捉えてみる。学習の単位（「コンテクスト」）が再生産されながら線をなすように漸進的に変化してゆく。しかし、それはあくまでも合目的的ではなく（そのように意識される場合でも）、確率的に進行する。
本作ではそうした学習的ドリフトを実践／表象する。

What kind of shift mode is the "drift" representing?
Let us think about the process of evolution. It has a unit such as parent and child. It recapitulates to make a historical lineage, and gradually changes its mode of life. However, the evolution of creature does not aim to adapt to the environment. Only the organism that is able to recapitulate the natural change in the fluctuating environment is capable of continuing their lineage. It is like a boat drifting in unpredictable wind and sea.
I call this the "drift". Chilean biologist Humberto Maturana (1928 - ) and Francisco Varela (1946 – 2001) called this evolution of life the " natural drift".
I would like to discover this "drift" in individual learning. "Learning" is "a shift of action". If the structures that make possible a certain behavior in the members of a species develop in a particular history of interactions with the environment, it can be said that the structures are ontogenic and that the behavior is learned.
I call this change of "learning" a drift. A unit of learning (context) is innovatively reproduced as making a line. It is not necessarily to answer its purpose but it stochastically progresses.
In this work I represents / practicing this "drift of learning".
